7th NATO MWCOE Steering Committee meeting

Between 18 and 19 November 2020, NATO MW COE organized the 7th Steering Committee (SC) meeting. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the meeting was held via VTC.

National representatives (SC members) from Croatia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania and Slovenia as Sponsoring Nations (SN) and Austria as a Contributing Partner (CP) participated in the meeting. Representatives of France, Montenegro and the USA attended the event as observers.

At the beginning of meeting, the Chairman Colonel Tadej Burgar (SAF) welcomed the SC members and observer Nations. After the Chairman’s opening address, the NATO MW COE Director, Colonel Borut Flajšman presented an update on centre’s 2020 key activities and future challenges.

During the two-day meeting, the work of MW COE was presented in details and scrutinized by the attending SNs representatives. A series of 2021 POW activities were highlighted, including the expected progress of the  Mountain Warfare Concept, development of the Tactical Standard ATP 3.2.1.3, congress, seminars and courses. As a result, the Programme of Work and Budget for 2021 were approved.

One of the meeting’s highlights was the address given by Allied Command Transformation (ACT) Flag Officer or General Officer (FOGO), Brigadier General Ilmars A. Lejins, who expressed his support to the NATO MW COE and offered his assistance within the capabilities of ACT and beyond.

The SC delegates agreed that the integration process of Montenegro as a Contributing Partner in the MW COE has to be accelerated.

In conclusion, Colonel Tadej Burgar thanked all participants and invited them to the next SC meeting, scheduled for September 2021.
