International Scientific Conference “MOUNTAIN WARFARE ENVIRONMENT EXPERIENCES AND PERSPECTIVES”

The annual International Scientific Conference “MOUNTAIN WARFARE ENVIRONMENT EXPERIENCES AND PERSPECTIVES” took place in Poland from 18 to 20 June 2024.

The conference was organized by the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces, Department of Mountain Operations.

The NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (NATO MW COE) supported the conference as a co-organiser and chaired the Mountain Panel. More than 100 cadets from various NATO and partner nations, as well as senior military representatives from the Polish Armed Forces, attended the conference.

LTC Dennis Jahn, Head of the Doctrine and Standardization Branch, took the opportunity to introduce the NATO MW COE and, in particular, to explain its tasks and activities. During the Mountain Panel, the participants were also informed about the current regulations and publications on mountain training and mountain combat at NATO level. Some lessons learned from the German mountain exercise “Bergloewe” were then presented. A panel discussion on “Mountain Warfare in the Future” concluded the event. In parallel to the NATO MW COE presentations, participants were able to view the latest developments in personal equipment and mountain gear at the industrial exhibition.

All in all, the participants were given a wide range of impressions of training and operations in mountainous environments.
