NATO MW COE Workshop – Current and Future Security Threats: “Know Your Enemy”
From 2 – 5 December 2024, the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (NATO MW COE) hosted the Current and Future Security Threats Workshop in Bled, Slovenia. Attended by military and security experts from 17 nations, the event provided a comprehensive analysis of modern threats across the strategic, operational, and tactical levels. Discussions covered unconventional warfare in conflict zones such as Gaza, the transformative impact of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) threats, cognitive warfare, the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI), big data processing, and lessons derived from Russian aggression in Ukraine.
The workshop incorporated contributions from official intelligence agencies, offering actionable insights on hybrid warfare tactics employed by state and non-state actors. This multidisciplinary approach strengthened understanding of the complex challenges shaping modern security. The workshop also underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration and adaptive strategies, enhancing the collective readiness of participating nations to counter current and future threats.
