Publication of the 2nd Winter Mountain Risk Management Workshop Brochure

Following the successful 2nd Winter Mountain Risk Management Workshop, the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence has published a comprehensive brochure summarising the key presentations and discussions. Held in Slovenia in March 2024, the workshop brought together 25 participants from 9 nations, including experts from the Slovenian Mountain Police and the Civilian Mountain Guide Organisation.
The workshop provided an important platform for sharing knowledge and addressing the complexities of risk management in winter mountain environments. The agenda included both theoretical and practical aspects of winter mountain risk management, covering topics such as risk identification, learning from accidents and the use of advanced technologies such as GPS devices and VR applications for avalanche risk assessment.
Participants took part in sessions on risk management principles, practical exercises in adverse weather conditions and in-depth analyses of real avalanche incidents.
The primary goal was to share knowledge among mountain specialists to improve safety and operational effectiveness. The detailed brochure summarising these discussions and findings is now available.
